An organization seeking document certification must pay a nonrefundable Review Fee so we can determine whether the document meets our standards. We base the fee on the document’s length as you ordinarily use (or intend to use) the document:

If we award the “Plain English Certified” designation for a document, we will license your organization to use PEI’s “Plain English Certified” designation and/or certification mark without charge for the remainder of that calendar year. In subsequent years, to continue the license, you must pay an Annual License Fee.
* We will also negotiate a one-time perpetual license on a case by case basis.
After you submit a document for review and pay the Review Fee, we will ordinarily determine whether to certify the document within two weeks. If we certify the document, we will notify you by email and email a license to you.
If we determine a document does not meet our standards, we will email you a brief explanation. You may then modify the document and resubmit it without paying a new Review Fee within 30 days.
